April 9 - April 10

Visiting Artist Jaime Brett Treadwell

Jaime Brett Treadwell Baby Blue Boston

On April 9-10, artist Jaime Brett Treadwell will be on campus to discuss his work and offer a lecture/critique. His recent paintings lean toward a series of invented forms, which employ optical deceptions, and often bend the space between ambiguity and certainty. Adopting Op Art tenets, such as shimmering and shifting line and color, and channeling various retro-aesthetics including 80s nostalgia, sci-fi, futurism, and digital graphics, he experiments by mashing bizarre ingredients together in anticipation of new and unfamiliar interactions.

Treadwell will provide a guest critique for selected students on Monday, April 9, a Core lecture on Tuesday, April 10 at 9:45 a.m., and a campus lecture that same day from 4 to 5 p.m.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Treadwell studied painting and sculpture at the State University of New York at Cortland.  In 2000, he returned to the Philadelphia area to attend graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania (MFA, 2002). Treadwell’s work has been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad including in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, South Korea, Vancouver, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Dallas, and Chicago. Treadwell is an associate professor of art at Delaware County Community College.
