Watkins’s award-winning graphic design and illustration programs just added more shine to their reputations. Six Watkins students have been juried into the prestigious Graphis New Talent Annual 2020. This is the sixth year Watkins has been juried into this student design competition and book, competing with more than 50 schools.
Gold awards went to Ali Stephens for “Baume” in the graphic design category (including posters, packaging, and her photographs) and Carolina de Alba Garza for “Shawn Mendes,” also in the same category, featuring product photography by Watkins alumna Amy Nicole Miller. In the illustration category, silver awards were given to Jordan Zinn for “The Catch by Langston Hughes,” Natalie Briscoe for “Home Sweet Home,” and María Sol Mancini for “Gayliens.” Carolina de Alba Garza earned a silver in package design for “Muja Wine” with product photography by Amy Nicole Miller.
Graphis, Inc. is an international publisher of books on communication design. Based in New York City, Graphis presents and promotes the best-submitted work in design, advertising, photography, and art/illustration.
And at the 2020 Student ADDY Awards, held at Play in Nashville on February 25, 2020, Watkins students brought home more gold awards (eight) than any other competing school in Middle Tennessee. Watkins students also earned five silvers, a Judge’s Favorite Award, and a Best of Show. The breakdown is as follows:
