Here are some answers to typical questions students have about our Adult Community Education Program. Email or call us at 615.277.7456 if you don’t find the answers you need.
How many students will be in my class?
Our typical Community Education class size ranges from five to 15 students.
Are supplies included?
Unless otherwise noted in the course description, you must bring your own supplies. We will send you an email before the first night of class with a supply list.
What do I need to bring the first day?
Bring note-taking materials—laptop or paper and pen or pencil—to the first meeting of your class. Unless otherwise noted in the course description or supply list, that’s all you will need to get started. Your instructor will discuss the course syllabus and the emailed supply list during the first class.
What should I wear?
Wear clothing in which you can work comfortably. You may be working with materials that can stain clothing, so you might want to bring a smock or apron, too. For woodworking classes, please wear closed-toed shoes.
How do I find my classroom?
It couldn’t be easier. All our studios, labs, and classrooms are in the main building. Come in through the main entrance, and we will meet you in front of the Community Education Office to the right of the receptionist desk.
Do I have access to labs or studios outside of class time?
No. As a Community Education student, you are permitted to work in studios and labs only when your instructor is present.
How can I get in touch with my instructor?
Email or call our office with your contact information and message. We’ll have your instructor contact you. Watkins policy prohibits us from giving out instructors’ contact information to Community Education students.
What is your attendance policy in the event of a flu outbreak or other pandemic?
If you attend or work at a school that has been closed due to illness or outbreak, you will not be allowed to attend a Watkins class. If a large number of students or your teacher are out due to illness, the Community Education director may choose to cancel your class.

Can I check out books from the Watkins Library?
No. Circulation privileges are reserved for degree-seeking students. However, we encourage you to use library materials in the library and take advantage of the lounge and study areas. Check library hours.
Do you offer scholarships or financial assistance?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide scholarships or financial assistance to Adult Community Education students.

Where is Watkins?
Watkins is located at 2298 Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, approximately three miles from downtown Nashville.
Can I park for free?
Yes. We provide free parking in the lot in front of our main building.
What if I have to miss a class? Can the tuition be prorated?
We don’t prorate tuition if you miss a Community Education class. You are not penalized when you miss class because you aren’t earning a grade or credit-hours, but instructors are not obligated to provide make-up time when you miss a class.
