As an illustrator, you have the power to amuse, chasten, enlighten, and inspire the diverse audiences who view your work. That’s why our Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration is designed to develop both your creative hand and your inventive mind.

On the journey toward developing your distinct style and voice, you will:

  • explore the entire illustration process, including character development, sequential imagery, storyboarding, and visual narration
  • analyze the historical and contemporary roles of illustration in reflecting, serving, and advancing culture
  • master specific techniques related to picture books, game design, and animation
  • dive deep into special topics through classes such as Illustration/Printmaking Camp and The Picture BookProxy-Connection

Turning your creativity into your life’s work

At Watkins, our professors leverage their networks to introduce you to visiting professionals with successful careers as illustrators, animators, authors, comic book publishers, and art directors. Working with such mentors, you will create a professional-level portfolio with which to launch your illustration career.
