Painter TL Solien to Speak at Watkins

The 125th Anniversary Artist Lecture Series will close with painter TL Solien, who will lecture on January 27 at Watkins. A reception will begin at 6:15pm followed by the lecture at 7pm in the campus theater. This event is free and open to the public.

Solien is known for his satirical, ambiguous and introspective paintings and for his use of literary and pop-culture references to investigate his personal experience. Solien, who has a bachelor's degree in art from Moorhead State University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and sculpture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has had approximately 40 solo exhibitions over the last 25 years. His work can be found in numerous private and public collections worldwide including: the Tate Gallery in London, the National Gallery of Australia, the Singapore Art Museum, the Whitney Museum, the Smithsonian Institute, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. He is currently a Professor in Painting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
