Graphic Design's Holly Carden Shows Her Stuff in Student Art Contest
July 02, 2012
Watkins students proved a strong contingent at the Hutton Hotel’s second annual collegiate art contest, with five making the list of 26 finalists. Sophomore Graphic Design major Holly Carden won third prize for her watercolor illustration “Who Killed Cock Robin?” and received a $2,000 scholarship. (You may have seen Holly’s work earlier this year — she designed the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival poster.) Congratulations also to Photography major Rachel Growden and Fine Arts majors Ann Catherine Carter, Erin Lord and Luisiana Mera for their recognition as finalists.
The competition, which was open to all Middle Tennesse college students currently enrolled in a fine arts curriculum, was juried by a panel of local gallerists and artists. The resulting exhibition, comprised of the top three selections plus a dozen other finalist works, will be on semi-permanent display in the Hutton Hotel lobby, beginning in mid-July.
