Aisha Cousins is a Brooklyn based mixed media artist. Her current project, DivaDutch, is a series of site specific, participatory public performances executed in predominantly black environments including Bedford-Stuyvesant, (Brooklyn), Brixton(London), and Paris. In 2008, Aisha performed Diva Dutch at the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts and she is slated to perform it this year at the Brooklyn Museum of Art. In addition, she has received a grant from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs to recreate the performances in various Brooklyn neighborhoods during the summer of 2009. At the moment, she is identifying performance sites in black neighborhoods throughout the U.S. and is currently slated to present the performance, along with an exhibition of the resulting artifacts, at Tennessee State University. The artist talk at Watkins is in partnership with the performance at TSU.
