CANCELLED: Harrell Fletcher's March 29 Visit

Multi-disciplinary artist Harrell Fletcher, who was scheduled to speak at Watkins on March 29 as part of the Visiting Artists Series, has been forced to cancel his visit to Nashville, owing to a family emergency. The next, and final, lecture in the 2011-2012 series will present photographer Alec Soth, on Thursday, April 26 in the Watkins Theater. …more

Swaney Prize Judging Recognizes Top Talents

Luisiana Mera's detailed drawings earn her the prestigious annual honor   Luisiana Mera, a freshman from Panama City, Panama, was awarded the 2012 Robb Swaney Prize for Excellence in Visual Expression during judging held on March 8.   Established in 2006 by Mary Jane Swaney in memory of her husband, noted Nashville architect Charles Robb Swaney, the $1,000 cash prize honors a student who produced "visual designs and patterns that spoke to others."…more

Moses Williams Wins Top Prize at Currey Student Show

Moses Williams, a junior Fine Art major, claimed the top honor at the 2012 Currey Student Juried Show for his three-minute video piece, The Violence of Oizys.  As recipient of the Anny Gowa Purchase Award, which comes with a $500 cash prize, Williams' work will be part of the permanent Watkins collection.…more

Summer Preview Open House & YART Sale Set for April 14

Watkins Graphic Design Stars Rock the Student ADDYs

Watkins Graphic Design students won more top awards than any other school competing in the 2012 Nashville Student ADDYs!  More than 400 people filled Play Dance Bar on February 28 to celebrate the most creative advertising students in Nashville at the annual competition, presented by the local chapter of the American Advertising Federation, and saw our Graphic Design talents claim nine Golds (two more than last year) and two (of the four) Judges' Choice Awards.…more
