The Watkins Pre-College program is a 3-week college-like experience is for highly-motivated high school students to experience the life and culture of art college and broaden their artistic potential as they take classes, work in the studio, develop a college portfolio and exhibit their work. The program will be held July 13-31, Monday through Friday from 9am – 4pm. Students may choose between two different tracks of study – film or fine arts. Space is still available. The National Gold and Silver ADDY Award winners were announced last week at the 2009 AAF National Conference in Washington, DC. Teela Shandess won a Gold ADDY, Lydia Light won a Silver ADDY and Chad Sawyer won a Silver ADDY. Watkins received more national student ADDYs than any other college in the region. Watkins Alum Derek Gibson has been selected to participate in Minds Eye, an exhibition at The Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO. Derek was among 40 photographers from the USA, UK, Austria, France and Sweden whose work was selected for this exhibition. Learn more by clicking here.

On May 13, the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association (TICUA) voted to extend membership to Watkins College of Art, Design & Film. TICUA engages Tennessee’s private colleges and universities to work collaboratively in areas of public policy, cost containment, and professional development to better serve the state and its citizens. TICUA’s member colleges and universities educate nearly 68,000 students from across the state, country, and throughout the world. With the addition of Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, TICUA represents 35 private colleges and universities across the State. Membership in TICUA is limited to independent, non-profit, regionally accredited colleges in Tennessee. To learn more, please click here.

The 7th Annual Founder’s Day Celebration in tribute to Cecy Reed will be held Saturday, May 9, beginning at 6:30 pm at War Memorial Auditorium in Nashville. The Interior Design Senior Show will be held Friday, May 8, from 6-9pm at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams store at the Hill Center in Green Hills. 4015 Hillsboro Pike #100. Free and open to the public.

Watkins students will participate in an exhibit with students from MTSU, Sewanee and TSU this week at Cummins Station in Nashville. A reception will be held Friday, May 1 from 4-7pm at Cummins Station, 209 10th Ave S., Nashville.
