Interior Design Exhibit Winners Named

Congratulations to those recognized at the 15th Annual Interior Design Student Exhibit, which ran January 10-29 in the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Gallery.   During a reception (1/20), department professors Cheryl Gulley (chair) and Jennifer Overstreet announced the winners in eight design categories and three "Best in Show" selections. Jurors for the student show were interior designers Holly Meadows Baird, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C; Sannyu Holden; and Malee Cherry, LEED AP.  …more

Watkins Movie Night Jan. 29 on the CW Channel

Nashville's CW channel is featuring Watkins College on January 29, during their Sunday night movie, "Thank You for Smoking."  Students and faculty will take viewers on a tour of the college and into the departments of fine art, photography, graphic design, interior design and film during five promotional breaks; tune in at 7 p.m. to Channel 58 (Comcast cable channel 18).   …more

Study Tours to France and Scotland Open To All

Watkins College of Art, Design & Film is offering two study-abroad trips during the Maymester 2012 session -- to France and to Scotland -- which are also open to community members. “Watkins Goes to France,” a 12-day trip set for May 15-26, will be led by associate professor Steve Wilkison, who has traveled to France nearly two dozen times.…more

The Film School Honored with 'Nashy'

Watkins College of Art, Design and Film was honored by FilmNashville with The Nashy, given to The Film School for “Outstanding Contributions to the Growth of the Nashville Filmmaking Community.”  The award was presented during the organization’s annual gathering on December 6, at Nu Mynd Studios. The FilmNashville board of directors voted to recognize Watkins for their support, going back to the mid-1990s, and valued contributions of time, talent and resources to the growth of the local filmmaking community.…more

Web Design Concentration Added to Graphic Design BFA

Watkins College of Art, Design & Film is adding a new concentration in web design to its curriculum beginning in the Spring 2012 semester, it was announced by Ellen L. Meyer, president of Watkins. The college received approval for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, Web Design Concentration from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the national accrediting agency for art and design and art and design-related disciplines.…more

Free Teacher In-Service Workshops Offered Jan. 27

Watkins College of Art, Design & Film is hosting a free Teacher Training for K-12 art teachers on Friday, January 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Focusing on contemporary artists who utilize narrative in their work, this in-service day will be an exploration of personal, social and cultural histories embedded in works of art, and include clay, drawing, printmaking and collage. Teachers will be able to sign up for two workshops, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with breakfast and lunch provided. …more
