Office of Student Life - Housing Operations Manager

The mission of The Office of Student Life is to identify and provide learning opportunities
designed to enhance the student experience at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film. We strive
to create an environment of inclusion, safety, involvement, and community to produce successful
practicing artists.
 
The office manages the following: career services, disability services, counseling, housing,
international student advisement, orientation, recreation, student retention, student activities,
and student health and wellness. Student housing currently consists of 2 48-bed apartment
buildings built in 2005 and 2008. We are in the pre-planning stages for a 3rd hall with a
tentative anticipated opening in 2012. As the 3rd hall comes online, it is likely that this position
would have the option to become full-time and live-on. If so, the incumbent will have the right
of first refusal. The Office of Student Life consists of the Director, Career Services Coordinator
(.5FTE), Housing Operations Manager (.5FTE), Resident Advisors, and workstudy support.
 
Housing Operations
● Communicate with prospective residents prior to move-in. Track contracts and deposits.
● Maintain current resident data; coordinate returning student contract process.
● Oversee move-in and move-out, with the support of the Resident Advisors.
● Serve in an emergency on-call rotation with the Director.
● Maintain all housing publications: interest packet, acceptance packet, process postcards,
contracts. Develop new housing publications as appropriate.
● Keep up with housing Facebook and/or other social networking media.
 
General Student Life (duties shared with Director)
● Assist with planning and implementation of new student orientation 2x annually.
● Manage housing content on the student life portion of the Watkins website.
● Serve on various committees as related to student life as needed.
● Conduct first-year interviews with new students, collecting information and data for
assessment purposes.
● Provide support as needed in other areas of student life.
 
It is fully possible that this position may be worked within first, second, or third shift (after a
probationary period) and on-call duties can be arranged with the Director to accommodate class
schedules or other obligations. This is a .5 position with an expected workload of 20 hours a
week. Compensatory time will be arranged with the Director as warranted.
