Handmade & Bound Nashville, 3rd edition
For an artist, a sketchbook can be a record of the observations, inspirations and brilliant ideas encountered in daily life. Think of Leonardo da Vinci dashing off a quick drawing of a helicopter 400 years before Igor Sikorsky, then jotting down his lunch order in a reverse code.
Making a sketchbook can be a way for the rest of us to access our inner artist and record our creative impulses. Watkins Community Education, in conjunction with Handmade & Bound Nashville, is sponsoring The Sketchbook Collective, a series of community workshops conducted by local book artists and culminating in a show of sketchbooks created by workshop participants and those submitted by local artists, musicians, writers and book lovers.
The Sketchbook Collective show is the opening event for Handmade & Bound Nashville, 3rd edition and will be held in the Brownlee O. Curry, Jr. Gallery at the Watkins College of Art, Design & Film. The Sketchbook Collective opens with a reception on Friday, October 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. and runs through October 14.
The third edition of Handmade & Bound Nashville is Saturday, October 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to our Vendors page for information and online registration if you want to connect your artists books, zines or one-of-a-kind book objects with our book-loving festival goers. Handmade & Bound Nashville is a festival celebrating independent publications and printed matter, featuring artists’ books, zines, and mini-comics. This is an event for publishers and artists (as well as zine distros) to come together to sell and/or trade their handmade and affordable publications and creations. Admission is free and open for all ages.
