Jennifer Knowles McQuistion

Artist's Statement

Jennifer Knowles McQuistion investigates the self through the examination of familial stories.  Her current work explores the push and pull between mother and daughter as they separate into individuals, what defines generational learned behaviors and where they originate, the psychology of gender patterns in family relationships, and the effectiveness of documentation of art and performance as a method to explore psychological themes.

Biography
Jennifer Knowles McQuistion grew up in Middle Tennessee. As an eighth generation Tennessean, she often finds inspiration in family stories that have been passed down through oral storytelling. Much of her work investigates our interconnectedness with our ancestors and the psychological influence ancestry has on the individual. Jennifer works in many different mediums including photography, video, mixed media, performance art and book arts.
