- Artist's Statement
- My entire reason for creating—for living—is to show that I am part of something greater than myself. I apprehend beauty as a way in itself to discover truth and ultimate reality, for true beauty captivates the eyes so the tiny and magnificent facets through which God reveals himself can obtain permission to pass straight into the soul. Creating, then, goes beyond the physical process and product, and is a spiritual interaction: the exchange between God and my soul. When I create, I am expressing my relationship with God and inviting others, therefore, to judge for themselves what I have seen, experienced, and believe. Every piece is a cross section of my journey and my pursuit. By openly and honestly baring my struggles, growth, fears, faith, searching, discoveries, and revelations, I hope to penetrate a deeper level within the viewer so that the art becomes more than a “pretty picture” but something that stirs the very soul within him. My work is simply a starting point; my perspective, an addition to that of the viewer’s, enabling him to better see a more complete picture of himself, others, the world around him, and God. Every piece is purposed to speak life, truth, and hope—to lead to discovery; but this requires taking the time to consider what the pieces present. What the viewer sees—what messages he takes away from the art—depends entirely upon whether he allows the piece to take him beyond what is visible to the eyes.
- Biography
- I was born a Tennessee-native in 1989. Being home-schooled, my exposure to encouragement and experimentation in art came from my family. My grandfather's enthusiasm for painting was contagious, and I continue to glean from his knowledge, imagination and curiosity. The greatest source of inspiration and enrichment of my artistic sensitivity, vision and purpose has been my church. There I can engage in an ongoing, conceptual dialogue, and have displayed my work to share a visual journal of my spiritual journey and encourage other artists. Because of my poetic father and lyrical mother I inherited a love for words and discovered an evocative and revealing counterpart to my visual pieces. While my main goal is to clearly communicate the messages in my conceptual pieces, I enjoy experimenting with color, symbolic, figurative representation, texture and incorporating low-relief three-dimensional objects.
