The Library at Watkins, Watkins Community Education and Handmade & Bound Nashville 2014 will celebrate poetry, books and the print arts with the Poetry & Prints gallery show and community workshops. Inspired by the work of Russian artist Vasily Kandinsky and the retrospective of his work hosted by the Frist Center, September 26, 2014, through January 2, 2015, Watkins Community Education is hosting a series of community book arts workshops. Professional book artists, poets and printmakers will teach workshop participants how to create their own books and fill them with the poetry and prints they create. The artists’ books created by workshop participants will be displayed along side works created by invited working artists in the Poetry & Prints gallery show in the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Gallery. Join us Friday, October 3, from 5-7 pm for the opening and reception honoring the participating artists. Then come to the Handmade & Bound Nashville 2014 Festival and Marketplace, Saturday, October 4, 11 am- 4pm on the Watkins campus. Handmade & Bound Nashville is a festival and marketplace celebrating independent publications and printed matter, featuring artists’ books, zines, and mini-comics. This is an event for publishers and artists (as well as zine distros) to come together to sell and/or trade their handmade and affordable publications and creations.
