Spring Break Classes
Watkins' Spring Break Classes provide quality art and design instruction to youth and teens, ages
4-18, during the same week as Metro
Nashville Public
School's spring break. Classes are taught in our studios, labs
and lecture rooms and are limited to no more than 8-12 students to allow individualized
attention to each student's unique skills and abilities.

Ages 4-5
Art Safari
March 15th-19th, a.m. session, 9:00am-12:00 noon
The perfect class for children who are animal lovers! Using masterworks, models, and photographs, students will analyze the forms of animals to discover their basic shapes. Drawing, painting, and sculpture will be used to record observations and improve art skills while developing an awareness of the animal kingdom.

Ages 6-9
Where the Wild Things Draw
March-15th-19th, a.m. session, 9:00a.m.-12:00 noon
Students will learn basic elements of art such as color, line, composition and form through imaginative literature. Each project will incorporate visually stimulating modern writing by authors such as Eric Carle, Beatrix Potter, and Maurice Sendak, as well as classic fairy tales.

Ages 7-13
Cartooning
March 15th-19th, a.m. session, 9:00a.m.-12:00 noon
Learn the basic fundamentals of cartoon art. Professional techniques are used to show how artists use a variety of media such as pastel, oil pastels and ebony pencils to create characters, animals and backgrounds.

Creative Clay

Experience the art of hand-building and basic wheel-throwing while learning about form, construction, decoration, and texture. Works will be glazed, painted, and fired. Appropriate for beginning and intermediate students.

2-D Art: Drawing & Painting
March 15th-19th, p.m. session, 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m.
Students will use a variety of media to improve drawing and design skills. This course introduces the basics to beginners and encourages advanced students to experiment with new methods through the use of charcoal, pastels, pencils, brushes, and more.

3-D Art: Sculpture & Clay
March 15th-19th, a.m. session, 9:00a.m.-12:00 noon
Students are introduced to the three-dimensional design through processes such as sculpture, hand building, and the wheel. Working with different media including clay,
paper, plaster , and wire students will learn about form, construction, decoration,
texture and scale.
