Saturday A.M. Classes

Saturday A.M. ClassesWatkins' Saturday A.M. Classes provide quality art and design instruction to youth and teens ages 4-18 on six consecutive Saturdays in the fall and spring semesters. Classes are taught in our studios, labs and lecture rooms and are limited to no more than 8-12 students to allow individualized attention to each student's unique skills and abilities.

Spring 2009 Saturday A.M. Classes

Dates: Jan. 31 - Mar. 7. Classes meet Saturday mornings for six consecutive weeks.

Times: 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon.

Registration Deadline: Jan. 23

Tuition: Ages 4-5: $150. Ages 6 and up: $175. Some classes may have extra material fees. Scholarships available.

Discounts: Sibling Discount: First child pays full tuition. $30 discount applies to each additional sibling.

Scholarship Information: Through a grant from the Memorial Foundation a limited number of competitive scholarships are available. Application Deadline: Jan. 16. Click on scholarship info or call 615-383-4848 for more details.

Ages 4-5

Young at Art

Saturdays, Jan. 31 - Mar. 7, 9:30 am - 12:00 noon

It's never too early to embrace your creative side! This class introduces the youngest artists to the joys of creating art while discovering color, shape, texture and form. Experimenting with painting, drawing, collage, and paper sculpture sets the stage for a life-long love of art.

Ages 6-9

Young Masters

Saturdays, Jan. 31 - Mar. 7, 9:30 am - 12:00 noon

The perfect class for the child who loves to create. Students are introduced to line, composition, color, texture, drawing and painting. Projects will vary each session, giving students formal art instruction while allowing them to work in a wide variety of media and techniques. Encourage today for a future Picasso!

Ages 7-13

Creative Clay

Saturdays, Jan. 31 - Mar. 7, 9:30 am - 12:00 noon

Experience the basics of hand building and wheel-throwing while learning about form, decoration, and texture. Work will be painted, glazed, and fired. Appropriate for beginning and intermediate students. ($25 materials fee)

Ages 10-13

Mixed Media Drawing & Painting

Saturdays, Jan. 31 - Mar. 7, 9:30 am - 12:00 noon

This class utilizes a wide variety of media to improve drawing, painting, and design skills. Students will enhance their talents by creating works using charcoal, pastels, pencils, paint, brushes, and more on surfaces such as paper, canvas, or cardboard.

Ages 14-18

Manga

Saturdays, Jan. 31 - Mar. 7, 9:30 am - 12:00 noon

Through an introduction to the Manga art form and its subgenres, students will develop their own story by creating their own Manga book. Students will learn to draw their own environments for story setting and will create unique characters using a Manga grid.

Photoshop

Saturdays, Jan. 31 - Mar. 7, 9:30 am - 12:00 noon

Through this introduction to Adobe Photoshop, students will scan and modify photographs and paint digital images to create amazing visual combinations while learning the tools of the program, as well as basic design elements. Some computer experience required. ($25 lab fee)
