Teacher In-Service Day

Cross Reference: Exploring the Art of Hans Schmitt-Matzen

Dates/Times:
Friday, May 4
or
Saturday, May 5
9:00am – 3:30pm

Workshop Overview:
Join artist Hans Schmitt-Matzen for an in-depth look at his work and inspiration. On display in Cheekwood’s Temporary Contemporary Gallery, the work explores the spatial relationship of being in a library. The artwork in this series is based on photographs taken in libraries, and attempts to convey the painterly aesthetics of panning one’s eye across the rolling spines of books lining a shelf.

This workshop will begin at Cheekwood with a discussion led by Schmitt-Matzen in the gallery space. Participants will then drive to Watkins for lunch and art making activities inspired by the artist’s work and process.

Location:
Cheekwood in the morning, Watkins in the afternoon

Cost:
$20 ($15 for Cheekwood members)
*Fee includes Cheekwood admission, parking, teaching materials, workshop supplies, continental breakfast, and lunch. Payment is required at the time of registration.

Credit:
Participants will earn 6.5 Professional Development hours for attending.

Workshop registration fees are non-refundable. If your cancellation is received two weeks in advance, you will receive a credit for a future teacher workshop within the same calendar year.
