Financial Aid at Watkins

At Watkins we strive to help meet the financial needs of our students by extending both need-based and merit-based financial aid to all students who qualify. Nearly 80 percent of our students receive some form of financial assistance (grants, loans, and/or student employment).

Most financial aid is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need, defined as the difference between the cost of education and the expected family contribution (or EFC). The federal government’s need analysis formula is used to determine a family’s ability to contribute to college costs.

Watkins College of Art, Design & Film offers financial assistance from various programs comprised of federal, state, and institutional funds. Students interested in applying for financial assistance are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), list our school code 031276, be admitted as a degree-seeking student at the College, complete the Institutional Application for Financial Aid (after being admitted) and meet all eligibility requirements to participate in the student financial assistance program. The FAFSA can be completed, electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov

FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES

  Fall  Spring Summer
Priority  April 1 April 1 April 1
Late July 1 October 1 May 1

Our priority awarding deadline is April 1st. To meet our priority deadline, you and/or your parents must complete the FAFSA beginning January 1st using the most accurate  estimated income information available (i.e., end of year check stub of earnings, W-2 forms, federal tax returns- if available). Even if you haven’t filed your federal tax return, you can still complete your FAFSA in order to meet our deadline and update later with actual income once available. The Financial Aid office will be able to put together an award package for accepted students who have filed the FAFSA and other required forms by the priority award deadline. Remember that early filing maximizes your chances of receiving assistance from aid programs for which you qualify.
